The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre ★★★★

Absolutely brutalist movie in everything from its brief length to its abrupt ending and to the total lack of ceremony that's given to dispatching the victims or even introducing one of the iconic horror movie monsters. As the audience is taken deeper inside this batshit house the set decoration and imagery continue to ratchet up, which culminates in an insane hellscape dinner party. It's possible that fleshing out the story more would ruin the aesthetic that Tobe Hooper has created here, but there's a very jarring feeling when the credits hit so suddenly after twenty or thirty minutes of constant adrenaline heightening. Like ripping off a bandaid.
