    spencer is not a traditional biopic - the film wants us to know this, even warning us at the very start. it rejects the verisimilitude that typically burdens the script of other historical biopics as it instead opts for an exploration of the claustrophobia and anguish of a woman whose circumstances have split her into a either symbol of beauty and grace or a mere liability, a ringing noise one has to tolerate, depending on who sees her.
