A simple and forgettable drama with strong performances and a great soundtrack.
Woh, okay, there's a lot to unpack here even though you could easily mistake this as a shitty sci-fi movie. Conceptually, it's pretty awesome. The execution kinda sucks though.
I think this needs a Westworld style reboot that'll tighten up the rules of the world and expand on the story. I definitely want to read Simulacron-3 now to see how the story was originally developed.
This is one of the cringiest movies I've ever seen and I mean that in the best way possible.
I don't know how Bo Burnham knows so much about what it's like being an eighth grade girl in 2018 but he captures it perfectly and it all seems so spot on.
The directing is fantastic, the writing is so realistic and the acting (especially Elsie Fisher and Josh Hamilton) is surprisingly great.
But anyway, thanks for reading my review. Please like and subscribe for more. Gucci!
The definition of style over substance. Thankfully, the style is pretty good. The general timeline of my rating for this film went something like;
I'm gonna love this...okay, this kinda sucks...wait, maybe it's really good...oh, Nic Cage being Nic Cage...what the-...yo, this is messed up...huh, that wasn't so bad...actually, yeah it was.
