Incredibles 2 ★★★★

The first act is sluggish to the point where you might wonder if you've really waited 14 years for this. But then Brad Bird pivots into a parable that runs a perfect parallel to its predecessor and, in the shrewdest of ways, takes a jab at its own delay and existence. A superhero movie that suggests you're a sucker for waiting around for anyone to save you but yourself — at home or in the streets — is a welcome wrinkle and also a sharp rejoinder to people who think Bird is just some Randian parrot for the notion of exceptionalism.
