Oldboy

Oldboy ★★★★½

Surprisingly the remaster made it just ever so slightly worse. Maybe because it's my 4th watch, I'm just so familiar with the pacing so it feels uncanny when a shot or bgm lingers longer or includes a take or dialogue I hadn't seen before. Or I've grown too fond of the original circumstances of my first viewing (480p dvdrip on a desk monitor). But park chan wook's edits introduce slack in what was already a very tight movie. The original cut was a product of it's time. This loses the 2003-ness.

It's still great, like seeing an old friend who changed but you can't put your finger on it
