    The Boat

Not as witty as his other films, but some hilarious set-pieces for sure. I am repeatedly impressed by the use of his titles - 'You can't keep a good boat down.'

    The Play House

The least funny Buster Keaton short I have seen till now. Still a couple of gags did give a hearty laugh.

    Gamak Ghar

A tender, poignant film that will leave you deeply touched.

It is reminiscent of the best of Ozu in its framing and subtle use of colours, especially in the first part that evokes a strong sense of nostalgia.

Achal Mishra's Gamak Ghar is probably the most promising debut by an Indian filmmaker post Chaitanya Tamhane's Court.

  • Joji

The earlier film of the trio - Dileesh, Syam and Fahad - had a charming effortlessness to it, whereas here the construction of the various parts of the film to make a whole are quite apparent.

Despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed Fahad's performance and the dark, brooding mood of the film. It kept me engaged right throughout its running time. Bincy was a rather interesting take on Lady Macbeth too. I was particularly thrilled by the ingenious use of the spinner of the semi-automatic machine unwilling to spin as it hasn't found its balance.

Only wish the plot hadn't become blunt by the end.
