    I will never get tired of proselytizing for this movie. Possibly the most emotionally potent and wistfully beautiful film to come out of France's Poetic Realist period, it's unique in that the story around the film's production and its subsequent cultural legacy are so genuinely romanesque that they almost overshadow the relatively contained realism of the film's own narrative.
