Not sure there was ever a chance that I wouldn't like this, but it's a wonderful lovely little film, the kind I would love to make: all routines and patterns and observing small things like trees and the way light bounces around our environment. Love the way Franz Lustig uses depth of field to make the world feel as miniature as Hirayama feels in the shadow of the Skytree, without the frame ever becoming too diorama-like. And those shadow dream sequences were incredible.
Please: stop taking pictures of the screen during movies. Especially not during one of the movie's most poignant moments.
