First time I've watched it in almost ten years and it's still an excellent film. The three man weave of Gylenhaal, Downey, and Ruffalo is flawless and David Fincher, one of the greats, directs the living hell out of it.
Seems like every movie released nowadays is either a prestige piece, a box office bonanza with roided out dudes and/or robots destroying a city while trying to kill each other because fragile masculinity, or an indie where the white person goes out into the world to find themselves. Movies are supposed to be fun, dammit and "The Nice Guys" does a great job of reminding us why. Good cast, good lines, good from start-to-finish. I wish Shane Black made a movie like this every year. Hopefully now that he's freed from Marvel's greasy tentacles, he can go back to doing what he does best.
