The Sect ★★★★

The first film of my first letterboxd challenge sees a young lady pursued by a satanic cult led by Herbert Lom’s Doctor Moebius. It apes the visual motifs of other Italian horrors of the time, but ends up becoming something much more profound thanks to Michele Soavi's visual style. i really like his take on horror, it can be challenging at times and there are no upbeat moments apart from the odd comically dubbed line but the weird imagery makes it so relentlessly watchable. I also liked the creepy titular sect because satanic sects should be really evil and these guys live up to that. Pino Donaggio's score is also of note.

Watched as part of Shocktober.
