The Godfather: Part II

The Godfather: Part II ★★★★★

I don't know how Francis Ford Coppola was able to make this film as amazing as it is but he found a way. He managed to continue the story after the masterpiece the first Godfather was and I can happily say that this film is just as amazing as the first film. The story had me invested the whole way through, the cinematography is stunning, the musical score is fantastic, the direction is phenomenal, the screenplay is amazing, the editing is brilliant, there are many disturbing, intense, and shocking moments, the dramatic moments are very effective and powerful, and the performances are stellar from everyone especially from Al Pacino who still does a fantastic job in his role as Michael Corleone and the other main standout is Robert De Niro as a young Vito Corleone who does an amazing job and I have no problem that De Niro would eventually become Marlon Brando's Vito Corleone in the first film. However, if I had to find anything to nitpick with the film it would be that because the film is more than three hours long the film can't get away with having a few moments that felt either too slow or kind of boring. Again though that is such a huge nitpick and that doesn't even hinder the enjoyment that I got out of the film at all. While the first Godfather is slightly better than this film it is still on par with that film in my opinion. Another example of a sequel that you think wouldn't be good but ends up really surprising you by being such a fantastic film. If you loved The Godfather then you will love this film just as much. I'm hoping that the third film isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be and even though I will watch it in the future I'm just hoping that it won't be a complete disaster.
