This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

The patient, head scratching, societal intermediary, Sanjuro, dazzles us all as he weighs the moral compass of two rivaling factions. Toshirô Mifune gives his best performance that I’ve seen to date. All the while, Kurosawa balances visual perfection with a masterwork of a script.

I’m so thankful to be able to own this film. No, one cannot replicate the experience of seeing this movie in theater. An excellent, thought provoking watch. Mubi is quickly becoming one my favorite streaming services. They truly dig up amazing stories and films that I would have never heard of otherwise! This documentary being a great example of that.

This movie rocks! The dope practical effects, the perfectly timed dark humor and, the commitment to telling this story in the modern day, was awesome! I can really appreciate that.

This movie was such a whirlwind with many, fascinating, themes that need multiple watches to fully dissect and appreciate. Kurosawa’s ability to weave a story, with such precise camera work, is fucking incredible! Every time I watch one of his films I come away feeling like I’ve entered a dream that moves so fluidly and feels almost musical, the way…
