This was directed by the cousin of a very close friend of mine, so I went out to Tribeca with him to watch it.

I absolutely adore the vibe of this movie. It has such a distinct style that I really enjoyed, and brought a ton of energy to an already strong screenplay. The performances were really solid all around and the editing was razor sharp, not to mention the witty humor and use of breaking the fourth wall as a storytelling device which I’m always a fan of. Super impressed by this and I’m very much looking forward to what Daniel Antebi does next.

“Oh my god I am a woman I can’t mansplain anything.”
“Uhh I’m a feminist and I think a woman can do anything a man can do.”

I am shocked at how not terrible this is. Extra points for Brad Pitt just kind of showing up.

I can’t say I have any excitement for these movies anymore. Having Sam Raimi attached to it made me more interested, but not by much considering MCU entries are very rarely a true product of the director. I was wrong in this case though cuz oh my god this movie is so much more Sam Raimi than I expected. Obviously the style was toned down like it always is, but I’m still very satisfied with the amount they let him play…

“The things that people value and covet so dearly are the bait that lures them out of the light.”

That first scene is genuinely one of the best intros for a movie I have ever seen. The whole film’s style and visuals are a fucking feast for the eyes, and DMX and Nas both did surprisingly great for not having acted at all before this.

Upgrading this bitch to the score it deserves. The cinematography and score still hit so hard. Might be M. Night’s best.

I put this on for my family low key as a joke because they wanted to watch an Easter movie. Except my grandma loved it and was laughing and smiling ear to ear the whole time. So now I love this movie and will not tolerate any Hop hate. Otherwise Grammy and I will pull up and force you to watch it with the wholesome accompaniment of a grandma, and you will love it.
