    Jackass Forever

    Sorry to say this one didn't quite do it for me. One bit's an all-timer (Silence of the Lambs) and there are a few strong set pieces, but lots of filler. It's coasting off nostalgia -- if that appeals to you, you'll like this more than me. I found it more interesting as a reminder of the anarchic media landscape of the early-2000s. There are a lot of middle-age dicks.

    Wow. This was a real find for me. A beautiful and excruciating slow-motion train wreck as Blanche and everyone around her are destroyed by the terrible, intertwined forces of desire and patriarchy. Plus there’s a monkey!

The wintery setting and supporting cast of rustics add immeasurably to the atmosphere. The only draggy bits involve the earnest mentor Henry Travers and his lovelorn daughter played by Gloria Stuart. Claude Rains gives one of the great horror villain performances of all times using only his voice.
