Bryan Ray’s review published on Letterboxd:
Nolan’s most complex (& confusing) film to date. The cast is brilliant: Washington, Pattinson, & Debicki are fan-freaking-tastic. What Nolan accomplishes here on a technical level is borderline wizardry & should be seen on the biggest screen possible.
However, the sound mixing is a serious issue. Important dialogue & exposition is hard to follow in many moments, which only adds more confusion to an already confusing story. It makes Inception look like a walk in the park.
For that reason, a second (& possibly third) viewing is mandatory. It’s relentlessly entertaining, the action is incredible, and the story - while insanely complex - is undeniably awesome, engaging, & beyond epic. Use the bathroom right before the film starts.
It’s just hard to give a score to a film that I don’t yet fully understand - and I will be watching it again very soon - but I will anyways. The score is absolutely destined to change. After a second viewing, I’ll re-review it. Can’t wait to see it again...
