Rebecca Marouf’s review published on Letterboxd:
Yoshishige Yoshida (aka Kiju Yoshida) was part of the Japanese New Wave but seems to have been forgotten. Woman of the Lake stars his wife Mariko Okada who appeared in many of his film. It is based on a novel by Yasunari Kawabata. Okada plays the wife of a wealthy businessman who has an affair with her interior designer. The somewhat enigmatic plot features a set of naked photographs and an anonymous stranger. Yoshida's direction is remarkable, though. He carefully crafts the tension through visual and formal experimentation. A beautiful and psychologically complex effort.
