A return to form of sorts after the relative tedium of The Enforcer, Sudden Impact finds Eastwood at the helm of a psychologically intriguing entry where the villain is also a victim. The audience sympathies are constantly being realigned and the film is a nightmare for feminist theory, with an empowered woman invoking Dirty Harry-esque justice on criminals in an illegal way. Harry gets tons of great lines here and the moody photography makes a great return here. The ending is slightly out of character for Harry, but is at least thought provoking.
