The first time I watched this I was amazed at the amount of stress put on the viewer as we see so many aspects of Howard's life happening at the same time. Always in motion, always scheming or conniving to find a way to win everything back.
It was upon my second viewing of this that I noticed the lulls in the film. The long extended scenes of nothing happening, building a suspense as if something will, and it doesn't: Julia's walk back to her house after the club fight; Howard taking out the recyclables with the trash; Julia's arrival at the apartment.
This film is still my favorite of the year, narrowly edging out OUaTiH. Too bad it got snubbed by The Academy.
