holy shit this movie.
what begins looking like an a24 road trip film takes a completely dark turn. the characters are quickly forced to transition from their freedom as they travel through wide open spaces to complete forced confinement as they are held prisoner. the immense claustrophobia from not only the small room from which they have no escape, but their hopeless situation is overwhelming. shit hits the fan pretty quick, but the intensity keeps you hooked until the credits roll. the characters are complex and authentic. the situation shows the true nature of several characters, whether it be their hidden empathy, rising fear, or absolute cruelty. the characters are made even better by the phenomenal cast. the gore is brutal and stomach turning, but it’s the anxiety and desperation that takes center stage here.
green room is a fantastically gritty film that i have adored since i first watched it, but have grown to love even more. i’m gonna go watch it again now.
