after months of waiting i finally got to see the black phone last night and it was so much fun. a combination of the intensity of the movie and the cheering crowd made it such an enjoyable experience. ethan hawke is one of my all time favorites and he continues to give an amazing performance in this alongside some very talented young actors. i really look forward to seeing what these kids do next! i loved the overall plot and, without spoiling it, the last 10-20 minutes had me glued to the screen. however, i think this leaned more heavily towards a thriller rather than horror, outside of the supernatural elements. that isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it was a little different from the expectations i had going in. i also felt some of the aspects of the movie felt rushed, mainly the stories of and communication with the other kidnapped children. all in all this was a unsettling and surprisingly emotional movie that i encourage you all to see! 2022 horror is still going strong.
