"Vertigo" is the perfect example of an overrated film. It has clear, objective flaws such as poor pacing and a messy script but is somehow thought of as an all-time classic by filmmakers and critics. The stunning visuals, powerful score, and masterclass performance from Kim Novak give "Vertigo" some legitimate entertainment value, but the movie is largely disappointing. I really, really wanted to like this movie and I'm disappointed in myself for not enjoying it, but I have to be honest.

    High and Low

    ★★★★★

Another FANTASTIC film from masterful filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. The first hour is a psychological morality drama and then it turns into a riveting detective thriller for the second half. It's a film that grabs you and never lets you go until the very end.

I'll have to rewatch some of Kurosawa's movies to be sure about this, but "High and Low" might be my favorite of his films.

“The Batman” is the perfect superhero movie experience. It explores its deeply flawed yet compassionate protagonist in ways that are extremely respectful to the source material. The film balances the ultra-realism with the fantasy elements of the character. There’s great world-building, phenomenal performances, a terrific score, stunning visuals, genius direction, and a ton of satisfying “now that’s Batman” moments. There are a few plot issues and the casting of one particular actor was disappointing, but these aspects didn’t deter my enjoyment of this terrific neo-noir thriller.

    Everything Everywhere All at Once

    ★★★

"Everything Everywhere All At Once" is certainly a good film, but not the masterpiece many argue it is. The movie has a strong first act and an even stronger second act, but the third act is bloated, 20 minutes too long, and shockingly sappy for an A24 film. I appreciate the emotions the filmmakers were going for, but by the end the film felt like a Hallmark Channel movie rather than the compelling, trippy sci-fi adventure initially promised. While overall…
