The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel ★★★★½

My first Wes Anderson, as bananas as that is to say. I’ve long avoided his work out of some baseless skepticism, some assumption that I’d find his idiosyncrasies tiresome. Now that I’ve given one of his most lauded pieces a fair shake, all I can say is… my lord, what a delight! Somehow, under all the lightning-fast witticisms, razor sharp blocking/physical gags, dioramic images, and the layers of framing devices, lies a warm and wistful beating heart. The Grand Budapest Hotel is a light and delectable treat, yet nourishes like a meal by the time the credits roll.

And it’s so fucking funny! Like consistently laugh out loud funny! I don’t know why I find this so surprising!

oh I so look forward to digging further into Mr. Anderson’s work.
