Ocassionally this just skirts by on being entertaining enough to be watchable without thinking about it too much, but the second you do start thinking about it... hoo boy. Almost every single facet of this premise falls apart when thinking about it for ten seconds, let alone longer than that. Which all could've been less of a problem if you had a charismatic lead actor who could sell you anything on likeability alone. Actors like that certainly existed in Hollywood. Whether any of them do in the current franchise climate is a different question, but I'm at the very least reasonably sure Ryan Reynolds isn't one of them. So that just leaves you with a bland supporting cast, flavorless direction, an all-time clunker of a Taika Waititi (who is coming up fast on "your ass used to be beautiful" territory) performance and some real lowest common denominator references to other corporate IP. Which in the end, leaves us with the sum total of a film that I can't award any higher praise than the fact that it's not quite as annoying as the trailers made it seem. Kudos to everyone involved.
