Perhaps the greatest exploration of the true horror of war ever committed to film. No glory, no heroes, no victories, no purpose to the bloodshed. Just a dazed march into Hell. And yet the material is crafted so well, from the engaging cinematography to the nightmarish score to the increasingly shell-shocked lead, that you can't help but be captivated by every moment. Like a horrible fever dream, it draws you in and grabs hold of you, lingering long after the final images fade away.
