BlacKkKlansman ★★★½

Hinges largely on the whiplash effect generated in the conclusion, which posits multiple studio endings back-to-back (bad racist cop fired, David Duke PRANK’D) with a supersaturated dosage of theatricality via Lee’s patented dolly shot, before reminding us that, “Hey dudes, the KKK still is a thing. Forget the 1970s, how about last freakin year. Here’s some footage.” The ideal effect would be to make all the rib-nudging references to modern politics worthwhile but nope, they’re still pretty smarmy (and a far cry from the universality of Do The Right Thing).
