Might’ve hit differently had I watched it in, say, the last week; the first attack from Shin obviously calls to mind the 2011 tsunami, but the aftermath is more reminiscent of the floundering bureaucratic response to the COVID outbreak. A film about crisis – thankfully, no one does explosions better than Anno.
