Under the Silver Lake ★★★★

Overall enjoyed this movie a lot for the twisted, weird, funny, creepy, quasi film noire that it is. Andrew Garfield is great and the visuals are amazing. I do have to say though, I was left questioning the way women were portrayed throughout the film- as objects, as animals, as sexualized ads, as monsters, unwillingly or unknowingly on display... it feels like there’s a point trying to be made about the way women are depicted in pop culture but it’s so incorrigible that I think it edges into just replicating what already exists in our society instead of critiquing it in an effective way.
