Ryan Francis’s review published on Letterboxd:
First off, I must admit that I was (maybe foolishly) expecting this to be more of a Conjuring-like horror flick, but it turned out to be a bit more of a psychological drama with some serious nerve-frying freaky parts. Not saying this is a bad thing, because it turned out to not be. At all. Jennifer Kent's The Babadook is a film, that as I'm typing my thoughts on it in the dark at 4:00 a.m., continues to leave me feeling uneasy. Basically from the moment it begins, there's this quite unnerving sensation I got from it, which sticks around for the entire running-time, and that's pretty goddamn impressive for a debut feature film.
Babadook is a fantastic drama/horror film, one that I very much look forward to revisiting again in the future; especially now that I know for sure what exactly I'm going into.
