I obtained the encyclopedic tome of mini-reviews by Pauline Kael, "5,001 Nights at the Movies," some time ago and have consulted it regularly ever since. Unequivocal praise is relatively rare so I decided to try and keep track. Here's what I have found.
There are no ratings, so it's in approximate order of Kael's effusiveness and my interpretation. For instance, the "Earrings of Madame de..." review begins with "Perfection." [[EDIT: NO LONGER SORTED -- I misclicked while adding a film and it defaulted to A-Z. I moved the notable ones to the top (a top 50) but I'm not re-sorting the whole thing, sorry.]]
Read Notes to see choice snippets from the mini-reviews. [[EDIT 2: Someone on the site has really outdone me, and many of these are now on the site here: letterboxd.com/notpaulinekael/ ]]
