    The Way Way Back

Hmmm. I don't know about this one. The lead is kind of useless the whole way through. I didn't find his journey to be all that interesting, and by the end it feels like nothing has really happened? Characters are made to be caricatures for the sole purpose of guiding him down his predictable path. The fact that this plays out with the cinematic qualities of a TV sitcom really didn't help either.

    The Visit

I liked the idea of the girl being an aspiring documentary filmmaker; it gives the camera a purpose, with the added bonus of some high quality shots and a structure that is usually missing from POV movies. Starts slowly, and I found the kids annoying, but it picks up steam and they become more bearable. There are some really creepy scenes scattered throughout, but as a whole, it should have been a lot scarier, right?

To me, a very special movie. One that wraps me up and brings me to a place that at one time meant the world to me. You grow past that, but it'll always be a part of you, ready to experience again and again whenever you feel it.

  • Domino

For all it's putrid greens and yellows this really surprised me. I tend to enjoy Scott's films, but this one somehow got away from me. I was genuinely invested in Domino's journey, and the cast of characters at her side are pretty fun and crazy.
