Aladdin ★★

Applaudable when the film, for better or worse, introduces elements to separate itself from the animated film - be it Smith’s endearing Genie and his Dahlia interactions or Scott’s Jasmine’s arc - but when scenes, songs and even dialogue are lifted almost verbatim it only reaffirms the charm and mastery of the animation derived from, making you wish the filmmakers could make their own work to stand apart from the 1992 predecessor.
