The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera ★★★★★

One of my favorite versions of the Phantom.

A silent film featuring Lon Chaney as the title character. When the Phantom's face is revealed the makeup is truly stunning and I could only imagine horrifying to audiences of that time.

Mary Philbin as Christine Daae is stunning.

Lon portrays the Phantom as dangerous and psychotic which I always found to be the most entertaining for me. His traps in the tunnels are wonderfully done.

Where else can you hear about the dreaded Punjab lasso.

I love the touch of color my version gave the Red Death masquerade scene. The chandelier scene was also very enjoyable.

The verison I watched had a score by Switchblade Symphony that I found wonderful. Their music is haunting.

I cannot say I like alot of silent films but Chaney's Phantom is one of my favs.
