“Does your head hurt yet?”
This is some absolutely dazzling blockbuster incoherency. The gist of it isn’t actually that difficult but the movie seems to go out of its way to obfuscate itself at every turn, with characters that only really exist as pieces to move from one sequence to the next while they try to explain what’s going on. So we’re left with the spectacle and it’s tremendous, not just in the practical effects work but in the way Nolan stages these mind-bending action set pieces using the concept of inverted time. I’m not sure if any of this ultimately means anything but it’s a pretty exhilarating cinematic thrill ride.
