Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me ★★★★

As a first-time viewer of this movie (and still working my way through The Return) there was a lot in this flick that was over my head. I’m sure that after much analysis and discussion, and many repeat viewings, it’ll all come together a little better. Otherwise it is 100%, unequivocally Twin Peaks. Lynch didn’t miss a step bringing this story to a feature format and pulls off what is, so far in my limited viewing experience, BY FAR the scariest shit in this franchise. This movie has so many terrifying, heart-pounding, mind-numbing moments.

All 135 minutes are designed to confuse, scare, and intrigue. Sheryl Lee gives an unbelievable performance too to absolutely sell Laura’s inner conflict and fear. What was once a mystery character was given so much life and empathy.

It’s a little long for my taste, which wouldn’t be as much of an issue for a film that isn’t as that freaky slow burn-yet-completely-unrelenting hybrid that it seems only Lynch can pull off. These are still just very fresh, unprocessed first impressions though. What a bizarre, wonderful and horrifying work of fiction they’ve crafted here.

Oh and only two episodes into The Return so far. All I have to say is WHAT THE FUCK. (Aways love me some Matthew Lillard too)
