Tenet ★★★★

I’ve always been of the opinion that Nolan became a much more interesting and idiosyncratic filmmaker ever since he stopped making Batman movies and just got full freedom to go wild with whatever weird formally bold shit he can conjure up with 200 million dollars, and here I think Nolan finally completed his arc of becoming a Mann-esque auteur, idk it’s just nice to see with both this and Dunkirk Nolan completely dropping his pretense of caring for individuals and ‘plot’ which allows his true loves to shine, that being the wonder of objects and bodies constantly in motion and an emphasis on feeling rather than understanding. Sequences of this devolve into pure disorienting abstraction with Nolan’s cold maximalism basically collapsing in on itself, and honestly it’s quite unlike anything I’ve seen so I get why this is so polarizing! Anyway I’m like the last person in the world to see this so who tf cares what I have to say, 4 bags of popcorn! 🍿🍿🍿🍿
