The French Dispatch

The French Dispatch ★★★★

Belongs up there with the best of Anderson’s achingly sad & melancholic work, can totally get some feeling cold towards the lack of a clear narrative through-line but to me artifice of these near flawlessly classically constructed & imaginative vignettes paint a real picture of mournfulness toward the continued death and commodification of art, aging and mortality & the strange ways we maintain our passion in an already dying world. Maybe it’s just come with age but this more mature and mournful side of Wes is something I’m already yearning for more of. After being throughly underwhelmed by Isle of Dogs it’s nice to say that as soon as the credits rolled I felt sad that I simply didn’t get to exist in this world any longer.
