Yakuza Hooligans ★★★

With a great score of jazz, eleki, and other pop forms, Yakuza Hooligans offers a jaded view of low-level crime that takes on a socio-political veneer when the "democratic" hoodlums stop acquiescing and plot against the "authoritative" yakuza who strong arm each successful plot from their hands. Footages of 1960s urban Japan is excellent, showing a country crawling out from decades of financial hardship and into a new era of hard fought, capitalist success.
