    ok so... hear me out... you know when you hear LA movie it evokes this feeling of driving in cars at night with a lot of bright or neon lights? and everything's a little shady?

    this is literally that, but in the Mumbai movie category. this is a Mumbai vibes movie. obviously the city has a seedy underbelly, but it's also truly very lit up at night and I love it for that.

    so, this is a Mumbai movie.

    this has been without a doubt my favorite Raj Kapoor movie. even when I saw his films when I was very young, I knew he was a brilliant director who is probably just a little bit too horny for my taste (LOOKING AT YOU SATYAM SHIVAM SUNDARAM), so casting his perfect little son, Rishi Kapoor in this movie -- who doesn't give me very pervy vibes -- is a great move and makes this immensely likable.
