I don’t love this movie. I think it’s likable, the plot line kinda made me cry when I was a kid, but the depiction of Indian Americans has always made me feel empty and I don’t find the ending to be as emotional as something like Veer-Zaara (2004).

On the other hand, I think this is the Shah Rukh Khan movie I grew up with. Every Indian American has one. Not a movie that they saw a lot when they…

    Mujhse Shaadi Karogi

I kinda liked this upon rewatch! If you ignore that the plot makes no sense, there's a lot of really good comedy moments in this.

I was surprised to actually be laughing at a David Dhawan movie, which are usually way too nonsense for me to suspend my disbelief -- but then of course it turns out my comedy babe, Anees Bazmee actually WROTE this film, so it's basically like I just watched another solid Anees comedy.

It's still no No Entry or Mubarakan, but it's probably David Dhawan's best movie and definitely not Anees' worst.

    The DUFF

I remember going to the last show on a weekday night to watch this semi-ironically. I didn't expect to fall madly in love with Mae Whitman and see one of my favorite on-screen pairings with Robbie & Mae.

I don't know what this movie would be without them, but good lord, they have the best chemistry of almost any romantic comedy I have ever seen. They are just so freaking charming together, and I want to watch them again and again.

    Starstruck

I love this Wattpad story, but I think I didn't realize that Jessica was so unlikable when I first watched it. Chris is a very nice guy & he really only likes Jessica because she doesn't like him. That seems like a toxic start.

    ★½

this was not good & bhumi pednekar is too talented for this utter tripe.

like even for a comedy about adultery -- I like comedies about adultery!!! -- there weren't even any funny hijinks in the film? the roof scene was okay.

but jeez, just rewatch no entry.

ananya is talentless next to bhumi. literally would've been a more interesting movie if bhumi just did a double role.

  • Ready

    Ready

    ★★½

Anees Bazmee can be excellent or nonsensical. Ready is somewhere in the middle of that, following a Welcome-like plot with... much less charm.

The supporting cast doesn't shine as much, Salman Khan is nowhere near as charming as Akshay Kumar, and although I like Asin, I love Katrina Kaif.

It's good enough for what it is. But yeah, you need hot dad, Anil Kapoor, to make an Anees Bazmee film worth it.
