Films meander like a restless wind inside my letterbox(d)

I attended my first "AMC Screen Unseen" event. A very frustrating watch. It centers around two relatively interesting characters but fails to ever expound on them in a meaningful way. All we get is a generic opening with the dad and heavy-handed gesturing with Sharon. This feels like the end of their stories, but we never get feel the weight of anything because of the lack of the emotional context. Reads like an inspiration-porn with nothing substantial to say or…
The more I think about it, the less I understand the choices made here. Erratic, seemingly directionless visuals, oddly muted performances, flat sound mixing, nonexistent characterization/arcs, rampant laughably on the nose dialogue, and a plot that amounts to little more than a guy chasing people from location to location with almost no change to the status quo. It's a similar feeling to watching a recut of a boring video game play through. Definitely not for me.
After spending most of today struggling to edit, this was such a cool way to spend my evening. Big theater, fantastic film.
Outstanding visuals, dreamy atmosphere, great cast, and pitch-perfect action. Giacchino’s amazing score is just the cherry on top. A few of its elements (mostly the central mystery) can feel too muddy at times, but if this is any sort of indication of the quality of 2022 films, color me excited.
