How did I even find myself watching this movie again? Nevertheless, here we are.
If Miike doing less films a year results in this level of quality then sign me the fuck up.
A more mature effort from Miike here, no no, don’t worry, it’s still ripe with the extreme trademarks and wacky humour, but he’s using it less frequently and it actually works in his favour here. Nice to see him returning to some good old yakuza storylines as well. Really happy that I caught this in the cinema, and I urge people to do the same, if anyone is interested in exploring Miike as a filmmaker then this is a great entry point.
