Robert Franco’s review published on Letterboxd:
”you don’t know how fast time goes by until you get there.”
there’s a LOT here and i look forward to revisiting it as soon as it drops on netflix. but until then i have one comment.
de-aged deniro works and here is why: it is a reminder that we are not looking at a depiction of events that have passed but rather a recollection. this is a man’s memory of how he was years ago. it’s impossible to remember who you were in the past without bringing who you are in the present into that memory. so while it looks like an 80 year old man trying to pass as a 30 year old man, in reality it’s really an 80 year old man’s impression of what he was like when he was 30 and that’s the closest his memory can get to being authentic.
