Robert Franco’s review published on Letterboxd:
first time i watched this i was either 21 or 22. i liked it at the time but thought it was my least favorite michael mann picture. i remember even thinking to myself, “why did he have to burn everything down, couldn’t he have just killed him and enjoy retirement?”
rewatched about 2 months ago and haven’t been able to get it out of my head. sometimes i will get drunk and just throw on the opening sequence before i fall asleep. and while the ending didn’t really resonate with me at 21, it resonates with me at 25 in a BIG way. in fact, it’s one of the only things currently that truly makes me feel something.
BURN IT ALL DOWN, BABY
