Hooptober 8: Film #30
The transformations are terrific, but it really makes you wait for them. There are some very odd music cues. Enjoyed it overall though.
Hooptober 5.0 - Film #8
Haven’t seen this in a few years and it still holds up beautifully. I always forget how patient and simple it is. Hard to overstate how much the music adds. It wouldn’t be remotely the same experience without it.
I’ve only seen a handful of the sequels and none of the remakes, but I’m looking forward to the new one coming out. Also, The Ringer just released an 8-part podcast series all about the franchise, so I’m excited to take a deep dive.
Hooptober 5.0 - Film #2
Giallo films aren’t exactly known for their great storytelling and character development. Even the best ones compensate for their throwaway plots with breathtaking style and staging. Torso is similarly lacking in the story department, but more often than not relies on nudity to maintain viewer interest. There are definitely a few memorable sequences, but it ultimately feels a little too much like a porno. All for artful titillation, but the director’s horniness in this case is just distracting.
