I enjoyed this more than I expected to until the ending.
I understand why it ended that way, and having seen Out of the Blue, it didn’t surprise me that Hopper wanted to shock me and subvert audience expectations.
Yet, it left me unsatisfied and wanting more. That’s probably a personal problem, but hey, what is this review if not personal?
Makes me want to travel the country myself and make a spiritual sequel of sorts and end it the way I want to.

A triumph of filmmaking but a disappointment of storytelling. I had little interest in what plot there actually was and the characters in it, but this was one hell of a badass movie.

I went in knowing that Kristen Stewart would give a remarkable performance.
What I didn’t expect was that I would actually be engaged and enjoy it. The scenes with the kids really warmed my heart. All the other scenes went ahead and broke it. I even laughed a little.
Impressive on many fronts but I especially want to give a shoutout to Johnny Greenwood’s score.
Ridiculously over the top in all the best ways. This movie was hysterical and a blast to experience.

Adam McKay said in the Q&A after that the entire car ride scene w/ Leo, Jen & Timothy was improvised. Leo brought that WWII song to him and Adam loved it and put it in the movie.
Also, Jennifer Lawrence was actually high during an Oval Office scene where her character was high.
