    Patlabor 2: The Movie


    This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

    Very different from the rest of the franchise. The storyline and mood is significantly darker and manages to convey the dread that an active terrorist threat would produce. The art, animation, sounds and music are all excellent, and are put to great use with Oshii at the helm. Technically it is an extraordinarily well-crafted film.

    One major thing I didn't particularly like about it however is that the characters take the backseat while it explores the political side of things.…

    After having mixed feelings over the Early Days OVA I wasn't especially excited to watch the film sequels, but to my surprise I found this to be highly enjoyable! It took everything I liked about the series and had none of what I disliked. This together with some great direction from Oshii and very impressive animation quality makes this an anime classic that shouldn't be missed!

    La Strada


    I don't know what to make of this one. On one hand, the cautionary tale aspect is quite brilliant. On the other, it's an extremely unsatisfying story which has made me question what the point of a film even is. I guess I should praise it for engaging me enough that I'm actually getting upset, confused and self-reflective but until I find what exactly I like and dislike about this I don't know how to even rate it.
