"This is not going to go the way you think!"

This is what I want Star Wars to be. Strong character driven movies. From that point of view, I think this is easily the best of the franchise. I loved how Johnson played with our expectations around what I thought I wanted from these films.

The main thrust of the story centres around the relationship between Kylo, Rey and Luke and how they impact each other. Kylo and Rey are…

“If Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don’t eat the tourists.”

What a fantastic film this remains after 25 years.

Take that opening twenty minutes or so. The film opens on a new dinosaur being moved into captivity when it breaks loose and a park worker loses his life. That opening three minutes creates the right amount of tension, mystery and intrigue to propel the film forward. Mostly because we never get a full reveal of what these…

    “It’s an honour”

Scream does what the franchise has always done, which is deliver a great horror movie while pointing out everything about horror movies. In this case, it’s sending up “requels” and other spoilery stuff. Anyway, the directors manager to inject Scream with all the fun the franchise has had before with some surprises as well. Loved the new cast and the returning cast keep it going as well, particularly love David Arquette.

“Ladies don't start fights, but they can finish them!“

Never been a massive Asistocats fan. Watched this one today and the animation style didn’t work for me. It’s a similar style to 101 Dalmatians but it seemed to be taken to another level. The cats journey back to Paris is fun enough and would’ve been happy to stick with them a bit longer but it cuts back constantly to Edgar and his machinations which are just not as fun as spending time with the cats.

    “We are world eaters.”

Throughout Ad Astra, I kept thinking that the whole plot is almost like a cheesy sci-fi movie from the ‘90s. It got space pirates, trips across the solar system, creepy maydays from other ships and some weird sci-fi goings on on Neptune. In another directors hands, this is a schlocky straight-to-dvd film. James Gray takes this almost B-movie plot and elevates it by making all that stuff secondary. In the end, the sci-fi stuff is a…

“This is a twisted web, and we are not finished untangling it, not yet.”

Been anticipating Rian Johnson’s latest and it certainly did not disappoint. Johnson crafts a wonderful whodunnit that, for my money, kept me guessing right until the very end.

There’s a glut of phenomenal performances here as well. Daniel Craig plays the enigmatic Benoit Blanc and he’s brilliant. He knows how to play every scene whether it’s for a laugh or delivering the final explanation. He’s great…
