    Jurassic Park

“If Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don’t eat the tourists.”

What a fantastic film this remains after 25 years.

Take that opening twenty minutes or so. The film opens on a new dinosaur being moved into captivity when it breaks loose and a park worker loses his life. That opening three minutes creates the right amount of tension, mystery and intrigue to propel the film forward. Mostly because we never get a full reveal of what these…

  • Colossal

"So, you don't remember anything we talked about last night, huh?"

I went into this expecting it to be more of a comedy and was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. Instead it's much more of a commentary on a part of today's society.

The story centres around Gloria who, after moving back to her home town after, starts to discover that she is connected to monster attacks in South Korea

The performances are great all around. Anne…

Bad Times at the El Royale

“What brings you to the El Royale?”

Bad Times is fantastic. It doesn’t quite deconstruct the crime genre in the Cabin In The Woods does for horror but it still shows us what can be done. Drew Goddard is definitely playing in Quentin Tarantino’s sandbox here, settting up a sprawling cast with these mysteries and questions. We do get satisfying answers for most and leaves some unanswered. That worked for me, I don’t need everything single thing neatly resolved. In…

“He's waited for this night, he's waited for me. I've waited for him.”

I really liked Halloween (2018). It’s a solid horror movie and doesnright by John Carpenter’s original.

They use Michael Myers really well but he isn’t quite at 1978 levels of stalker. There’s a great long take as Michael really gets going and it’s a great throwback to the originals opening shot. However it does seem to glorify Michael a little which didn’t quite sit right.

  • Logan

    "Logan, you still have time."

I can think of only one word to describe this film: brutal. Emotionally, physically and just brutal. Wolverine is a difficult character to portray and Hugh Jackman has perfected his portrayal over the last 15 years. But in Logan, we see almost a new take from Jackman. The R rating certainly loosened the reigns but they seem to have been able to take away from the comfort zone that they've been in.

    As I said,…

    Ant-Man and the Wasp

“Do you guys just put ‘quantum’ in front of everything?”

Ant-Man and The Wasp has the unenviable task of following up Marvel’s biggest film to date. Avengers: Infinity War. You’d that might it make it super serious, showing what these characters were doing that was so important that they missed out on the events of that film. Well, you’d be wrong. Peyton Reed and co. decided to make a funny as hell Marvel and they succeeded. It’s a fairly flimsy…
