James Rodrigues’s review published on Letterboxd:
The second film I have seen from Paul T Anderson proves to me one thing which I've heard from many others: the man Is one of the best living directors currently working.
Despite my current feeling that the runtime was a bit of a labour to get through, I'm confident this film will be one I appreciate more with each viewing.
Daniel Day Lewis is more than deserving of his best actor Oscar, with an outstanding performance, while Paul Dano does just as great a job as Eli Sunday, a man who masks his true intentions of sin and his ego behind his vocation as a pastor.
It must be said that the cinematography is outstanding to behold, a wondrous sight for the eyes.
