The poetry scene single-handedly raised my rating up half a star.
A metaphor for the heart.
I've had this film on my watchlist for around 2 years. I found it while searching for Yoshitaka Amano, one of my favorite illustrators of all time and the fact that it's directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) also caught my eye later on.
The somber tone for this film is set very early on and you'd better get used to it. Everything, soundtrack, art and story are very dark, which often appeals…
Great introspective approach to a few particular aspects of human nature, particularly when we struggle with our other selfs, as we try to pick up all the pieces and something is lost in the process, leaving us apathetic, empty, a mere shell of a human being. Expertly written and filmed, I thought this was surely a 5-star movie for the first half but I lost track of the personal connection I had to the character(s) halfway through, there's a broken link somewhere in the middle of the film. 5 stars for the way it's filmed, 4 for the message sent.
