Sound of Metal

Sound of Metal ★★★★

Sound of Metal is a retrospective journey in the life of a drummer who loses his sense of hearing and at the same time his direction in life.

Riz Ahmed is amazing in the lead role, arguably one of the best performances of the year, giving an equally moving and powerful performance. Olivia Cooke has a rather small role, but her performance in those few minutes is excellent.

The aspect that I most appreciate in the film is how its themes are addressed as deafness is not shown as an inability, besides the importance of strong support networks and the acceptance of the inevitable. In addition, the film does not fall into the melodramatic traps that are found in most films that address these issues.
